Finland : New Year in Jeris

Arrive at Kitttilä Airport and transfer to the hotel where you can enjoy an evening meal before settling into your private log cabin.

At Jeris in New Year week your holiday begins with a trip to a local reindeer farm where you can learn about Lappish culture in the warmth of the reindeer herder’s home. Try your hand at lassoing these beautiful creatures before jumping on board a reindeer led sled. After you have eaten lunch and warmed up in a tepee-kota by an open fire, you will join the bus for a journey to Lainio Snow Village which is a spectacular place to visit in New Year at Jeris. This outstanding complex is home to the legendary Snow Hotel where everything, including the furniture, is made completely out of snow and ice. The mood lighting enhances the already magical ambience.

Another wonderful experience to be had at Jeris during the New Year week holiday is an exhilarating excursion on a speedy snowmobile, one of the more popular modes of transport in these freezing regions. Following driving instructions and safety information, you will steer the vehicle over picturesque countryside, stopping for lunch around a campfire. On your way back to the hotel, disembark the snowmobile for some customary ice fishing. The afternoon is free for a choice of winter activities such as tobogganing, snowshoe hiking or skiing amongst the picture perfect backdrops of Jeris at New Year.

At Jeris during the New Year week holiday you will learn the techniques of cross country skiing on the extensive tracks which start from right outside the hotel. Later in the day, taka a snowshoe hike around the neighbouring area followed by an exciting evening skidoo trip where you will go in search of the Northern Lights. People travel from all over the world to witness the dazzling phenomena and on a tour to some of the region’s vantage spots, you will hopefully catch a glimpse of the mind-blowing display during New Year at Jeris.

Today there is lots of excitement in store at Jeris on your New Year week holiday. Transfer to a husky farm to meet these delightful dogs that are so significant to Finnish culture. A two hour safari which is led by the huskies concludes with lunch around the campfire. In the afternoon you can either begin your preparations in anticipation of the New Year celebrations or participate in additional winter activities. The evening will be spent enjoying a fabulous gala dinner, dancing and fireworks to mark the arrival of the New Year at Jeris.

Following the evening’s festivities your holiday continues with a day of leisure, giving you the opportunity to relax and make the most of the hotel’s facilities or if you prefer, join in more outdoor adventures. A farewell dinner in the evening commemorates your New Year in Jeris.

Sadly New Year in Jeris must come to an end and you will transfer to the airport for your return flight.
