Enjoy a unique winter holiday surrounded by pristine natural wilderness at the Iso-Syöte, which lies just beneath the Arctic Circle in northern Finland.
Fabulous activities on this New Year adventure week include snowmobile safaris, snowshoe hiking, a husky safari and a visit to a reindeer farm. Leisure time allows you to explore this beautiful unspoilt setting and to enjoy some of the many other activities such as ice fishing or a Northern Lights tour. Known as the gateway to Lapland, the Iso-Syöte lies in Finland’s southernmost fell region and boasts some of the country’s heaviest snowfall. Throughout your New Year adventure week a deep blanket of glistening snow covers the beautiful landscape of fells and forests. Nearby you will also find 12 downhill ski slopes, a snowboard street, half pipes and a snow tube run where you can slide down the slope in a large rubber tyre. The gentle fell area is ideal both for beginners and cross country skiers, with 75 miles of well-maintained trails starting from just outside the hotel. All drivers of a snowmobile must have a fully valid driving licence in order to take part in the tour.
Day 1 -
UK Departure (30th December)

Fly from the UK to Finland and on arrival you will be met and transferred to your Log Cabin. The start of your New Year Adventure week has begun!

Day 2 -
31st December Safari to Reindeer farm by car

Your first morning in beautiful Finland. All your activities will be pre-arranged for you on your New Year adventure week, and you will be provided with Arctic outdoor clothing for the duration of your stay. You will be driven 18km by car to Virkkunen's traditional reindeer farm. He will inform you about the reindeer, herding and his life at the farm with its history, culture and traditions. After meeting the reindeer he welcomes you into his home for coffee, homemade cakes and sandwiches. There will also be the opportunity to go for a ride in the reindeer sledge.

Day 3 -
1st January Free Day

Today will be a free day for you to explore the wonderful Iso-Syöte area on your own or take part in some of the optional activities that are available on a New Year adventure week.

Day 4 -
2nd January Snowmobile safari to wilderness
|
The safari starts at the hotel, where your snowmobiles will be lined up waiting for you! The track goes downhill, over hills and fells, through the forest and over ice-covered swamps and lakes. You will stop to enjoy a warm drink before heading back up the Iso-Syöte hill.

Day 5 -
3rd January Kick sledges and evening Northern Lights safari

Kicksledding is a real Finnish way of getting around when the snow has covered all the paths. Kicksledges are fun to ride with one foot on the glider and the other pushing you along. You will glide down the Syöte hillside to the Lappish Kota where you will be served coffee and pulla round a campfire. You will then be transported back up the hill by car.
A snowmobile safari has a special atmosphere at night time when driving under twinkling stars, over the fells and through the snowy forests. We stop to admire the stars in the sky and hopefully get a glimpse of the magical Northern Lights on our New Year adventure week. We will also have a coffee break by an open campfire. Duration : 3 hrs (45km).

Day 6 -
4th January Full Day Husky

Today you will be taken to the place where the huskies are eagerly waiting for you. Upon arrival you will be given instructions on how to drive the sledge and guide the huskies and then you will be swept off through snowy forests and ice-covered lakes. Along the way you will stop for a sandwich lunch by a campfire. The journey with the huskies will be approximately 30/40 kilometres and is certainly a highlight of a New Year adventure week.

Day 7 -
5th January Snowshoe Hiking

Our trip starts from the hotel after personal instructions on how to use the snowshoes. On your New Year adventure week you will hike through the deep snow covering the hill tops of Iso-Syöte, enjoying the views and the beautiful snow sculptures made by nature. During the break the guide will provide a hot drink and cookies for you. The rest of the day is at your own leisure.

Day 8 -
Return Flight Home (6th January)

Your action packed New Year adventure week comes to an end and now it is time to say goodbye. Your transfer back to the airport will be arranged to catch your return flight home.
