Finland : Christmas Winter Week at Jeris

Upon your arrival at Kittilä Airport, transfer to the Hotel Jeris and settle into your cosy log cabin after a welcome dinner at the restaurant.

Begin your Jeris Christmas week holiday with a trip to a wonderful reindeer farm where you will learn about these incredible animals and their significance in such cold regions. Visit a traditional Lappish house and listen to interesting cultural tales before testing your skills at lassoing the reindeer and guiding them on a short sled ride. Following a tasty lunch which can be enjoyed in a tepee-kota next to an open fire, a bus will take you to the magnificent Lainio Snow Village. The sparkling Snow Hotel is made completely from ice and snow, even the restaurant, bar and decorative sculptures have been intricately carved from ice. The ambient lighting creates a magical mood inside and is most definitely an unforgettable experience.

After you have received instructions and safety information about driving a snowmobile, you will race over 30 kilometres of immaculate countryside. Warm up around a campfire as you tuck into a Lappish lunch. On our return to the hotel we stop for a spot of customary ice fishing. The afternoon is free for you to have some fun in the snow, perhaps go tobogganing down the slopes, snowshoe across virgin snow or unwind in the hotel’s sauna.

At Jeris during Christmas week there is so much to do on your holiday and today is no exception as you engage in more thrilling pursuits. Once you have learnt the basics of cross country skiing you can explore the snowy tracks which start from outside the hotel. Later in the day we go on a snowshoe tour across the neighbouring countryside. In the evening there is an optional skidoo excursion to go in search of the elusive Northern Lights, travel to vantage points where artificial lights are at a minimum and hope that the impressive display of whirling colours becomes visible on the sky’s inky backdrop.

Today at Jeris your Christmas week holiday continues with a trip to a local husky farm, here you will discover the animal’s fascinating history in the Arctic and become acquainted with the friendly pack that await your arrival. Enjoy a two hour safari with these incredible dogs. The afternoon can be spent at your leisure and as a special treat in the evening of Christmas Day, Santa Claus will make an appearance at the hotel restaurant whilst you savour the typical Finnish Christmas dinner.
